Terms of Service

Phase is a tuner. It finds internet radio stations and connects your device to them — it doesn't broadcast, host, or produce any of the audio you hear. Every station on the dial is run by somebody else, somewhere else.

That has consequences we'd rather state than have you discover. We can't promise any particular station keeps working: stations move, go dark, block listeners by country, and change format without telling anyone, us included. We don't choose or review what they play. Station names, logos and marks belong to the stations.

Our listings start from a public radio directory and we tend the catalog ourselves — an automatic pass that catches dead and mislabelled streams, an AI-assisted review, and a human eye over the top — removing stations that are broken, wrongly tagged, or that we simply decide don't belong on the dial. If something on the dial is wrong, you can flag it or block it from the app, and you can write to us if it needs a person. If you hold rights in something a station is carrying, we're the wrong address for a takedown — we don't host the audio — but tell us and we'll take that station off the dial.

Phase needs an account: Sign in with Apple, or an email address and the one-time code we send to it. One account per person, and you must be at least 13 — older, where your country says so.

You can delete your account at any time from the account menu in the app. It permanently erases your profile, your saved stations and your logbook, and it can't be undone; the privacy policy lists exactly what goes, and the one thing that stays — the purchase records we're required to keep as accounting records. We can suspend or close an account being used to abuse the service or other people. We'd rather write to you first, and normally will.

Phase without Premium is a whole radio, not a demo, and it carries no advertising. Premium widens what the dial reaches; it doesn't unlock the instrument.

Premium is an auto-renewing subscription — $1.99 a month or $19.99 a year, shown in your storefront's currency. Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase, and it renews at the same price each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. Manage or cancel it in Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions: the App Store is the only place a subscription can be cancelled, and refunds are Apple's to give rather than ours.

We may also switch Premium on for an account by hand — a tester, a friend, someone who helped. That's a gift with no purchase behind it: there's nothing to renew, nothing to cancel, and we can end it.

What each tier includes is listed on the Premium page inside the app, and those figures can change as Phase grows. If we ever reduce what a paid tier includes, the change takes effect when your subscription next renews — never in the middle of a period you've already paid for.

Your saved stations and your logbook are yours, and they are kept, whatever tier you are on. Phase has no rolling caps and never trims either one.

When a subscription ends, what narrows is the view, not the vault. The dial reaches a smaller set of stations at a time — shuffled in some views, so the selection turns over rather than sitting still — and your saved stations and your logbook are shown from the most recent down instead of in full. Everything you saved is still there, still counted, still yours; the app is simply showing you less of it at once, and everything is whole again the moment you subscribe. That is a fact about how the software is built, not a policy we could quietly reverse.

A short list, because Phase isn't the kind of product that needs a long one. Don't scrape or bulk-copy the catalog, don't point automated tools at our servers, don't redistribute the streams as your own, and don't use an account to interfere with the service or with anyone else's. Use Phase on Apple devices you own or control.

Phase is made by one person. We keep it running with real care, and we don't guarantee it: it may be unavailable, features may change, and one day it could stop. If it stops, we'll say so in advance and leave you time to take out anything you want to keep.

Phase is provided as it is, without warranties of any kind, so far as the law allows. Where we are liable, that liability is limited to what you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here removes rights your own country gives you that can't be signed away.

This agreement is between you and Chillwolf Studio. Apple is not a party to it, and we — not Apple — are solely responsible for Phase and everything in it.

Your license to use Phase is personal and non-transferable, on Apple-branded devices you own or control, subject to the Usage Rules in Apple's App Store Terms of Service, and shareable through Family Sharing where that applies.

Support and maintenance are entirely ours; Apple has no obligation to provide either. Any warranty is ours too — if Phase fails to meet one, you may tell Apple, and Apple will refund what you paid for the app; beyond that refund, and to the maximum extent the law allows, Apple has no warranty obligation of any kind, and anything else arising from that failure is our responsibility.

Claims about Phase — product liability, a legal or regulatory requirement, consumer protection, privacy — are ours to answer, not Apple's. If anyone claims Phase infringes their intellectual property, we alone will investigate, defend, settle and discharge that claim.

You confirm that you are not in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as terrorist-supporting, and that you are not on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties. You agree to comply with any third-party terms that apply when you use Phase.

Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of this agreement and have the right to enforce it against you. Questions about Phase go to Chillwolf Studio at support@chillwolf.org — not to Apple.

We'll update these terms as Phase changes, and the date at the top says when we last did. If a change matters to you, we'll say so in the app or by email rather than hope you re-read this page.

These terms are governed by the laws of Washington, United States, and any dispute belongs to the courts there — except where your own country's law lets you bring it closer to home.
